Don’t think of Singapore as just being a concrete jungle anymore! Well of course the Central Business District is still the domain of skyscrapers, and pin-stripped suits. But the rest of the island is going to see incorporation of parks, recreational areas, incorporated with our waterways, nature reserves, the hills and ridges. An impressive development plan unveiled by Mr Mah Bow Tan. URA together with NParks will be bringing the gardens, and the parks closer to the rest of us. Making Singapore a greener, and more lushious, and vibrant.
Mr Mah said: “We may be the first and only people in the world to be able to take a relatively easy walk around our whole country. You can spend a morning with your family at East Coast Park, enjoy the sea breeze at the new coastal promenades at Punggol and Woodlands, or take an evening stroll through our hilltops at the Southern Ridges.” [Quoted from CNA website].
Apart from making space for the sporty as well as the tree-huggers, night prowlers are not forgotten. Gone will be the phrase “Singapore’s a boring place at night”, URA will enhance the “night-time buzz” along Orchard Road, the Singapore River, Bras Basah and Bugis areas and Marina Bay through activities, bolder night lighting and new street furniture. To make Singapore truly a metropolitan city that never sleeps.
What’s my Opinion?
This is just fantastic, it is very important to integrate nature with man-made structures, to have more spaces and places for people to relax, and foster family relations, encourage sports activities. Its definitely a move forward for Singapore towards building a 1st world city not just in efficiency but also in the quality of living.
