Its always important to know where the amenities and facilities are because it will affect the value of property. Further development of town infrastructure or amenities (like the expansion of the library), enhances the attractiveness of the town.
Earlier this month Senior Parliamentary Secretary of Communications and Information Ministry Sim Ann made the announcement in Parliament that they will be developing over the next few years. The library in Tampines will boast other facilities for sports and the arts sort of like a mega-community complex, where residents can gather, and foster stronger neighborly bonds.
Punggol is also expecting more facilities over the next few years as more residential housing is expected to be completed there, as more new families relocate there, development of more amenities, facilities is required to cater to the growing population there. But more needs to be done in expanding childcare places in this growing new town. With more young families moving to Punggol, childcare centres need to be available to allow parents to have peace of mind when they go out to work. Currently, there are 22 childcare centres catering to approximately 23 per cent of preschool children in the Punggol estate and there is a need to expand childcare capacity in the neighbourhood.
The Social and Family Development Ministry is expected to work on this to alleviate the current pressure on existing childcare centres. But easier said then done is the identification of the suitable sites for the location of more childcare centres, with decreasing number of available void decks and open spaces. There are concerns of that they will convert current green spaces or carpark roof tops into childcare centres. There are mixed views about this, some residents are concerned about safety and the reducing availability of open green spaces. No clear direction by relevant authorities on this matter for now.
